Year 5
Geography Super Learning Day
To begin our day and warm up our brains, we played Geography Brain Box where you have to memorise lots of facts about a country and then answer questions on it.
Next, we learnt that maps are designed to be an aerial view of a place. So we had a go at drawing the aerial view of our classroom!
After that, we set off in groups of 3 to locate all the QR codes hidden on the playground. To find them, Year 5 had to read the 4 point grid references, find them on the aerial view of our school and then go to that area to locate the QR code. Once found, they then had to scan it using their iPad to reveal the hidden OS Map symbol. The team with the most symbols after ten minutes were the winners.
Finally, Year 5 got to explore some OS maps and put all their map reading skills to the test.
They even got to have a look at Miss Smith’s Duke of Edinburgh map from when she was 13!! 😱 (that’s a long time ago!)
