Pupil Parliament

Some Key Stage 2 rights respecters form a sub team called the Pupil Parliament.

We work with Manchester Youth Council and create projects across the city that help everyone hear and understand what matters to young people.

St Mary's Re-Launch Event, December 2021

At this in-person event, we looked at Global Goals and talked about how the articles are linked. We then spent time learning about role models from past and present who have made sure their voice is heard. We learnt about Emmeline Pankhurst, Marcus Rashford and Lem Johnson.

Afterwards, we listened to a speech by a member of the Manchester Youth Council who told us about the 'Our Year' celebration in Manchester in 2022.

30 Years of Children's Rights Celebration, Manchester,  November 2019

Campaign speeches, linked to global goals and good health and wellbeing, written by pupil parliamentarians are shared at the Peterloo Memorial in the city. Children then marched around the Central library chanting for children's rights.

Global Goals Banner Making Workshop, November 2019

We worked with children from other schools and a professional artist to design and create banners for campaigns.

Manchester Council Chambers Visit, September 2019

Children visited the chambers and learnt about the role of the strategic director of education and councillors. After this, they worked in teams to devise campaign speech about global goals.

Houses of Parliament Visit, September 2019

The pupil parliamentarians visited London and went on a tour of the House of Parliament. It was such an exciting day out!
