Spring 1 - South America
What are we learning about?
This term, children in year 4 will be Geographers and learn all about South America.
South America is the fourth largest continent in size and the fifth largest in population. It is located mainly in the southern hemisphere.
It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west.
The physical geography of South America is dominated by the Andes Mountain Range and the Amazon River (which is the second longest river in the world).
Before the Europeans colonized the continent, the Incan Civilization was a dominant force in South America. In the 1500’s, Spain and Portugal colonized much of South America. Much of South America still speaks Spanish or Portuguese as their primary language.
It is an interesting topic to learn and we know children will enjoy learning about it. Below are some links to videos to help with our study:
