‘Welcome to our valley. We are proud to grow here together’

Autumn Term 1

What makes me, me?

"What was school like when your parents/ grandparents were little?"

What are we learning about?

This term, year 1 pupils will be Historians, studying changes within living memory. Children are introduced to historical themes by investigating how life has changed since our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents were born. Their learning will be organised chronologically, and the children will be introduced to historical ideas such as cause and effect, change and significance, which will be developed upon as they progress through school as historians.

Pupils will be using a wide vocabulary of everyday historical terms. They should ask and answer questions, choosing and using parts of stories and other sources to show that they know and understand key features of events.  They should understand some of the ways in which we find out about the past and identify different ways in which it is represented.
