Reading

Reading.

Please ensure that your child reads for at least 5 minutes each day, and where possible, is listened to by an adult.  Don't forget to share different types of books too - fairy tales, comics, books in your home language or fact books.   They all count!

This year, you will notice, the reading books we send home have changed to 'Rhino Readers' books these link to our new Twinkl Phonics scheme.  This means the children will not be repeating a book they may have previously read in Reception, how exciting!

Within each book are features to help make reading with the children as smooth and easy as possible.  The guide below shares tips and advice on:

  • making predictions
  • warming up using the 'Before Reading' pages
  • talking about the book as you go
  • consolidating learning with the 'After Reading' pages
  • re-reading to build fluency

Reading Records.

We 'strive for 5' signatures in your child's Reading Record each week to show that your child has read their book and can talk about it.

If there are not enough signatures then your child will be asked to keep their book to read and understand it better.
