Irk Valley Community School

The importance of valuing others, listening to different viewpoints, taking care of belongings, manners, appreciating the diversity which exists in our community and beyond

The determination to reach the highest standards, every day.

The desire to grow and develop, achieving the best for ourselves and each other.

The knowledge that working with others, asking for help when needed and supporting others to develop are the foundations of growth.

The importance of joy in what we do, discovering our strengths and using them.

Year 5S

w/c 22nd March Communication

We have started our drama project with north west drama. The children have taken part in creating tableaus (freeze frames) using their own stories. There are plenty more fun and active drama sessions to supporting English coming up this week.

Angles in Maths

In 5S we have been learning about geometry. We are aiming to be 'protractor perfect' soon. We have practised using the angle measurer and lining up the base line and the T to measure acute, obtuse and right-angles. We know plenty of angle facts too. Just ask us.

Football and Fitness

We are dribbling! We are practising accurate passing too. All this whilst improving our fitness levels and doing plenty of running.

Rayyan and Tolu

Well done on handing in your homework in the first week back. You put in plenty of effort and it was a JOY to read. We are really proud of you! Keep up the hard work and dedication to learning outside of school.

Reading Books

On Tuesdays and Fridays children can choose a new reading book and library book. We quarantine returned books for 72 hours.

Children should read every day at home. The children in our class find 10 - 30 minutes before bed time is a good time to practise this habit.

Grown ups - please can you write in the reading record when you have listened to your child read.

If your child reads at home five or more times a week, and a grown up signs the reading record, they will receive a raffle ticket. Once a half term, a raffle ticket is pulled out and the child will win a prize.

At school, children are heard to read by an adult at least once a fortnight.

On Monday children explore a new spelling rule. The spellings are available on google classroom.

On Friday the children are tested on their spellings.

PE Kits

On Monday and Friday, children can wear PE kits. Often the lesson is outside, so please wear warm layers.

Water Bottles

Children are to bring in their own water bottle each day.

Homework is set on Fridays and due in by the following Thursday.

It will be set on Google Classroom.

(Paper copies can be made available if you cannot access Google Classroom).
