Our Lessons

Have you ever wondered what we get up to in our lessons or how we vary our learning? Or would like to know which areas we have focused on throughout the week then look no further!

Phonics Screen

Phonics Screening is being undertaken with the children by Ms Owen and Mrs Cross today (wk comm. 10th June)  This is nothing to worry about, the children have been preparing for this throughout the year during their many Phonics lessons and from those we have already screened they have done their very best and that is all we ask for!

If your child would like to practice their segementing and blending at home, we suggest logging onto Phonics Play and enjoying the variety of games available.

Here are the sound mats used within school to help your child whilst writing, they each contain a small image to help them identify the sound each grapheme makes.  Our upcoming Phonics Screen will contain a mixture of words which contain or are made up of these sounds.

Our outdoor lesson is on a Monday afternoon and our indoor lesson is on a Wednesday afternoon.

Our new PE Curriculum is very exciting and filled with lots of new skills and sports to learn and enjoy so we’d hate for anyone to miss out!  Therefore, each week the children in Year 1L must have their PE kit to fully participate, they can even be left on your child’s peg until the end of term.

Irk Valley’s PE kit consists of a plain white t-shirt, black shorts or leggings/ jogging bottoms and black trainers.  Long hair must be tied back and earrings, even small studs, are not to be worn.
