The school council want to raise money for children affected by war and conflict. We have chosen a charity called War Child.
What does War Child do?
This charity protects children, educates children and stands up for the rights of children living through conflict. When a conflict breaks out, the charity aims to reach children as early as possible and stay on to support them for the long term. They help keep children safe and help them heal and learn. The charity is driven by a single goal – ensuring a safe future for every child living through war.
Where does War Child work?
War Child works in five countries across Africa, Asia and the Middle East (Iraq, Yemen, Central African Republic, Afghanistan and Democratic Republic of Congo) as well as those currently affected in Ukraine.
What are your fundraising events?
Event 1: Toy Day on Friday 25th March - £1.00 donation
Every child can bring in a favourite toy (something special to them) to play with in the afternoon. This way we can celebrate childhood. Please bring in a £1.00 on the day.
Event 2: Peace Band Walk on Friday 1st April – all donations welcome
This will be a sponsored walk in the school grounds. Every child in school will walk at least a mile (half a mile for a younger child). We are going the distance so children living in warzones don’t have to. Let’s see how many miles we can walk in a day. To find out more, check: https://www.warchild.org.uk/peace-band
