We recognise that children, as well as adults, have lived through an extraordinary time with the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. During lockdown we had regular contact with children and families with wellbeing calls, socially distanced home visits, and school for the children of keyworkers and vulnerable families. Plus, we used our youtube channel to keep connected with children, as well as google classroom for learning, and home learning packs for some.
Since returning to school in September, we have created opportunities to support children with their mental health and wellbeing. These include:
- weekly circle time sessions
- sequence of lessons in PHSE specifically designed to support emotional wellbeing of children returning to school after lockdown
- clear routines to keep safe
- increased playtimes to build relationships with friends
- increased outdoor sessions
- 2 hours of PE timetabled outdoors
- classroom mood boards (to give a daily opportunity for children to let others know how they feel)
- whole school projects in reading, writing and art to feel part of school
- virtual assemblies
- continued celebrations with choc choc Friday and certificates and positive phone calls home
- pupil voice surveys on returning to school
- bubble time with class teacher (1-1 time with the teacher)
