Reading

During your child's time in nursery we aim to create a great love for books and reading. We encourage all children to share this love at home too. There are many reading skills that are taught during your child's first years in school.

When reading at home the following activities will help your child to embed these skills

. Talk about the  pictures .

. Talk about the characters / setting of the story.

. Talk about the writing / text.

. Can they verbally order the story they have listened to?

. Can they role play the  story?

below are some Videos demonstrating these skills and how you can teach these skills at home also. At the bottom is a link to some of the books we read during the year , please listen to the stories with your child and practise the above skills.
