Phase 6

When learning Phase 6, mainly in Year 2, the children learn to use past tense to spell polysyllabic words, to use contractions ie) couldn't, what's, don't.  As well as learning to recognise common grapheme positions, to spot spelling patterns and how to use a dictionary.


In Phase 6 the children are also taught to use the following suffixes:

-ed   -ing   -er   -est   -s/ -es   -ly   -y   -ness   -ment   -ful   -less
