Year 6 Learning at Home

Our home learning page will give you links to help you continue learning if you are at home. You can access these lessons on any device: phone, tablet, laptop or PC. Have fun!

Autumn 2 home learning

ENGLISH

In English, children have been learning to write a 1st person descriptive narrative based on the video 'Titanium'. The following activities are based on the video. 

 

Activity 1 - Watch the film. What has happened? What has caused this? Why? How does the boy feel? Why do you think he left? Did the teacher look worried? How do you know?

 

Activity 2 - Think about the boy's character. How is is presented in the first scene? Is he worried about the destruction? Why does he not stay around to explain? Does he have supernatural powers? Describe his character in no more than 5 sentences. 

 

Activity 3 - Write in role of the boy, use his emotions through the story to gain an understanding of his feelings and whether he comprehends what is happening.

 

Activity 4 - Look at the ending, who is to blame? Why? Is the boy acting in self defense? Can he control it?

 

Activity 5 - Design you own superhero, what powers, costume, name would he have?

READING

In Reading, children have been studying the book 'The Lost and Drowned' by Stuart Fryd. Complete the activities below:

 

Activity 1: Match the words to the pictures and write a definition for each word. 

 

Activity 2 - Imagine you are Lydia. Write a diary entry for the day Lydia was beaten up by Mr Scrivit. Read Chapter 1 again to remind you. 

 

Activity 3 - Describe the dormitory Lydia and the rest of the girls live in.

 

Activity 4 - Write a letter to Lydia advising her on what actions she should take to protect herself and her sister. 

 

 

MATHS
In Maths, children have been learning how to multiply and divide. Complete the lessons the website below.
SCIENCE

In Science, we will be learning all about electricity. 

Activity 1 - Read through the information on the websites.

 

Activity 2 - Play some of the games on electricity and circuits. What can you learn from these games?

In Reading we are carrying out a book study on a book called 'SURVIVORS' By David Long. The book can be purchased from Amazon. 

Maths

 

In Maths we have been learning about Number and Place value. We will be starting the four calculations soon after. The following link has video lessons for you to follow at home.

In Science we are looking at the Circulatory System. We will look into the different functions of the system as well as the parts of the heart. Use the following links to learn more about it.
