Shakespeare - Romeo and Juliet

This week in English we used our drama skills to imagine how the civilians of the city of Valencia would have thought, the emotions they would have had and the questions they may have asked about their violent and unsettled city.

We wrote sentences  to describe the city of Valencia and drew then together to create poems.  Here are some videos of our performances.

Spring Term 1

This term we will be looking at the book ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’.  For the "hook", we made a better version of Butter Beer Recipe Version Nine and Three Quarters from "The Accomplished Cook" cook book, 1664 AD.

Throughout the term we will be focusing on using our writing skills and ensuring our sentences are grammatically correct and engaging for the reader.

Take a look at some of our pictures captured whilst they were enjoying making the drinks.

Autumn Term 2

Year 5A have been writing short narratives based on A Christmas Carol and would like to share them with you.  Take a look at their fabulous work!

Autumn Term 1

For our current writing topic, we are writing balanced arguments based on Pig Heart Boy story.  This is children's novel written by Malorie Blackman about a 13 year old boy, Cameran who is dying of heart disease.  Cameron in need of a heart transplant when a pioneering doctor approaches his family with a startling proposal. He can give Cameron a new heart - but from a pig.

We have made an initial attempt at writing our own, we’ve then looked at high quality examples to help us pick out the features that make them successful, before reflecting on our own first piece. We've taken some important steps to improve our writing in this genre.

These are some of our excellent writing on balanced arguments:

At Irk Valley, we believe that fluency, reasoning and problem solving lie at the heart of a successful curriculum in order for our children to become confident and resilient mathematicians.

In school we use the Singapore Maths - No Problem! scheme of work to ensure all our children from EYFS to Year 6 develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts as they progress through school.
