Irk Valley Extra Curricular Sports Activities 2018 -19
Keeping active and participating in as many different sports is key to a child's physical and mental growth. Developing physical fitness, building mental resilience and fostering relationships through sport all have added benefits in school and every day life.
The PE curriculum is wide and varied and gives all children the opportunity to participate and find that activity they really enjoy. It's also an opportunity to hone their skills and participate in sporting competition.
Please take a look at your child's PE provision for the next academic year.

North Manchester Inter Schools Athletics
After an arduous selection process, weeks of training and a nervous wait, the North Manchester Schools Athletics was finally upon us.
24 intrepid Irk Valley Athletes competed, and triumphed, against runners, jumpers and throwers from 12 other schools. All children pushed themselves to their limits and were a credit to the school. After totaling all the scores, Irk Valley came a creditable 4th place, only 1 point of third.
Well done to all our athletes!

Irk Valley Interform Tag Rugby
After weeks of honing their skills during lessons and after school clubs, the children had the opportunity to test themselves against their year group counterparts.
Organised by Coach Mark, each class in years 4-6, selected their teams to compete for the right to be called "Year Champions".
Matches were played at lunchtimes and were played in a competitive yet respectful way with all children playing to their full and showing excellent sportsmanship at all times.
It was fantastic to see so many enjoying Rugby and showing the teachers their amazing skills. Well done everyone.
Irk Valley Tag Rugby - A and B Teams
After weeks of training and practise, the tournament was upon us and the children did not fail to impress.
Over 12 schools entered the competition so expectations of progressing through the group stages were somewhat low. However expectations soon grew as both teams won their first games, then the next, then the next until finally, we finished the afternoon with a 100% record.
Our excellent win record means the children will go onto the second qualifier stage next Wednesday.

Well done Irk Valley!
Nike Girls' Games 2019
On Wednesday 5th June 2019 some girls from our Key Stage 2 classes took part in a event organised to promote girls' participation in sport. We competed against 10 other schools and I'm pleased to report with the assistance of our coach, Mark Haslam, we were able to beat the other schools and were crowned champions. Here are the victorious team receiving their award below. Well done Girls!
Kwik Cricket
Recently children from our Key Stage 2 participated in a 'Kwik Cricket' tournament with other schools from our community at MCA (Manchester Communications Academy) and I am very pleased to report that we qualified for the finals of the competition.
Rounders
More good news about our recent success. Our school, with the assistance of our coach Mark, have qualified for the Manchester Rounders Finals which will now take place, due to the terrible rain recently, on Wednesday 19th June 2019.
