Welcome to Year 3Y

Week beginning 11th October

What a week and we can’t believe we are nearly at the end of the first half term…

This week we welcomed Miss Burrell into the Year 3 team and 3Y have made her feel very welcome. It has been another busy week but next week will be even busier, including our spooky PJ day on Friday – look out for more information on this.

The children were ‘washing’ a Woolly Mammoth (thank you to the Woolly Mammoth volunteer!) Thursday this week, thinking about the steps we need to take to do this. This has been in preparation for writing instructions next week. Do watch the story again using the link on the website - it is quite funny.

Black History Day on Friday. This was a great day where we were learning about the impact of black history, arts and culture in the UK. The children moved across the other three classes in lower key stage 2 to do a range of activities including sport, art and music to celebrate the achievements of Black Britons.

We had an incredibly exciting day on Tuesday when a team from the River Mersey Project visited the school. They taught us all about the River Irk that runs just behind our school. They also brought in a variety of fish and insects for us to look at that they caught from the river that morning. It was really interesting and the children are going to be working with the team over the next year, learning about how we can take care of the river.

Next Friday is Spooky PJ Day as part of our reading for pleasure special days .The children are allowed to dress in pyjamas and share (age appropriate) spooky stories 'by torchlight' in the hall - mixing the older and the younger children. This will be a really nice afternoon and highlight the importance of reading for pleasure. Please do message on class dojo if you have any further questions.

Have a lovely weekend!
