Year 2 has similar traits with Year 1, as we still strongly encourage the children to access our fantastic resources at home as frequently as possibly.
All the children's logins can again be found on the inside cover of their purple reading records if they are unsure. Links to each of the websites can be found below:
Reading is such an important factor of the children's learning in Year 2 and we can't ask enough to encourage your children to read every night at home. We have been extremely impressed with both the children's and your own efforts with our request so far!
You may have noticed the book bands given to your child have altered slightly. This is not because they can not read the bands previously set, it is because our focus has changed to be on understanding the text rather than learning to decode and read the text.
As the children have the same two book for a whole week to help with their understanding; we encourage the use of ActiveLearn to compliment their reading experience, accessible using the link above.
We have recently added Mathletics to our bank of resources available for the children and hopefully you will remember from Year 1 just how good it is for the children's consolidation of Mathmatics through the quick fire calculations on Live Mathletics and the activities set for the children to complete.
All the fantastic rewards for the using of Mathletics continue again this year, the children answer questions to earn points enabling them to achieve various certificates. (bronze, silver and gold) Miss Watterson also has some fantastic 'Hall of Frame' and 'Mathletics Superstar' certificates and stickers for those who are resilient throughout the week. Best until last - which class will win the Mathletics trophy?? You've got to be on it, to win it!!!
The children undertook their Phonics Screening test in June however, we still promote PhonicsPlay to recap each of the sounds along with segmenting and blending words as it is beneficial to helping the children's application of phonics within their independent writing tasks.
This year at Irk Valley we are beginning to introduce a new handwriting scheme, the program is available online and can be used at home to consolidate the formation and joins learnt within our handwriting lessons. The website is better used on a touch operated device such as an iPad or tablet however the tutorial videos can be watch and copied onto paper. We are looking forward to seeing the children writing flourish over the coming years!
The login details can be found on the inside cover of the children's reading records, if you would like to explore at home!
