Parent courses

At Irk Valley we would like to offer training and development opportunities including courses and activities to help and encourage parents and children to enjoy learning together.

Here are the courses and activities we are currently running in our ‘Parent Hub’.

Monday

  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) 9-11am

This course will help you improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English.

Wednesday       

  • Sewing     9-11am

A fun activity where you can meet other parents and community members and learn new sewing skills.  Here you can make your own cushions, clothing, and have a chat!

Thursday

  • Haberdashery 9-11am

A fun activity where you can meet other parents and community members and learn new haberdashery skills.  Here you can make your own cushions, clothing, and have a chat!

  • Families connect  1-3pm

Families Connect focuses on supporting parents and children to learn together. It helps parents to support their children’s learning in three key areas:

  • Literacy and language development
  • Numeracy
  • Emotional development

The eight-week programme provides a series of activities, techniques and games that parents and carers can do with their children at home.

Friday

  • Talk English      9-11am

Manchester Adult Education Service provides a course that help people learn English, access services and get involved in the community. If you need to learn English, you can come to one of our Talk English Courses. On a Talk English Course, you will improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English. All of our courses are for beginners.

  • Happily ever after  9-10:30am

Come and share your childhood memories with others.  Share recipes  and photos from your culture.  We are working in partnership with Manchester Communication Academy to create a book to share with the community
